Sheer Spectacle is a movement performance group that is devoted to overflowing expressionism. Co-founded in 2022 by Lily Mello and Kali Petrizzo, their work is made up of grandiose dance gestures, theatrics, and their own queer experience. Sheer Spectacle believes in the power of community and the importance of amplifying diverse voices in the Philadelphia area. The provocative work encourages viewers to carve out their insides and explore what makes them spectacles of their realities.
Ripped Tights, Stoned Heart is Sheer Spectacle’s first evening-length work. Peeling back the curtain on our imagined dreams, the work is a catalog of vignettes strung together with the core theme of “Drama as action.” The work is unapologetically splayed, a heart open for observers to witness. With the sounds of 70’s and 80’s ballads, we are entering a melodramatic force that cannot be contained. It is intimate. It is gut-wrenching. It is alive. Come dream with us.
Please note Sheer Spectacle, in its first season, is being entirely funded by Lily Mello and Kali Petrizzo through their jobs as dance educators for children. All ticket sales will go directly to the performers, our costume designers and the lighting designer.
